Losinoni Secondary School

At the beginning of 2025, the school has 290 pupils across six classes (Forms 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3, and 4) and 14 teachers.

Challenges faced by students include:

  • Long distances to school – Pupils walk an average of 5 to 6 km each way.
  • Limited boarding facilities – A girls’ dormitory accommodates 80 girls, but there is no dormitory for boys. Some boys have requested permission to sleep in classrooms.
  • Food insecurity – Around 50% of pupils are not in the food program due to financial constraints.
  • Lack of learning infrastructure – Laptops, screens, and projectors are needed to improve education, particularly for IT-related subjects.

Leminyor Primary School

This primary school is located in the countryside south of Longido and has around 1,000 pupils. Some classes have over 100 students, creating a challenge for effective learning.

Key challenges include:

  • Classroom shortage – There are currently eight classrooms, with three more under construction through World Bank grants.
  • Teacher shortage – A lack of trained teachers remains a concern and will become more pressing once the new classrooms are in use.
  • Food insecurity – The school uses 100 kg of maize and 10 kg of beans daily, costing approximately $330 per day. The government does not fund this program, relying instead on parental contributions, but only 30% of parents are able or willing to contribute.
